Maria Doyle to contest Louth Selection Convention for Fine Gael
Louth County Councillor Maria Doyle, has announced over the weekend, that she is to contest the Louth Selection Convention for Fine Gael.
The convention to select the candidates to stand for Fine Gael in the next general election, takes place on Thursday 23 August.
The news that Doyle is to stand in the selection convention, comes a few days after town councillor John McGahon announced, that he is also to stand in the selection convention.
Councillor Doyle made the announcement on social media over the weekend.
In her Facebook post, Councillor Doyle said,
"I am very honoured to have been nominated to contest the forthcoming Fine Gael Selection Convention on August 23rd.
"I have been a local Councillor for over 7 years, first on Dundalk Town Council and presently on Louth County Council. I would love the opportunity to contest the next General Election on behalf of Fine Gael.
"I greatly admire the many men and women who already represent their communities in Dáil Eireann and I would be humbled and thrilled to be numbered among them."
Fine Gael won two seats in the Louth constituency in the last general election, Peter Fitzpatrick representing Fine Gael in the north of the county and Fergus O'Dowd in the south.
Deputy Fitzpatrick announced last week that he would be retiring from politics in the next election.
