Mannan Castle Golf Club news

Winners of the Mannan Castle Golf Monday morning's nine hole competitions.

Open Summer Series

It was a last chance for golfers to make the 12 man playoff on Saturday coming. Gerry McMahon was already assured of a spot on Saturday, this didn’t stop him from shooting a brilliant 40pts. Runner up was Leo Murphy on 39pts. Patrick Byrne shot 37pts to finish in third place.

Summer Series Week 10 - 29th & 30th August - 1st - Gerry McMahon (PH.16) – 40pts; 2nd - Leo Murphy (PH.16) – 39pts; 3rd - Patrick Byrne (PH.16) - 37pts c/b.

Mannan Castle Men

It was professional Chris Blackmore’s first prize and the course was set up very fair for golfers. Taking the last major of the year was Eoin Morrissey on a superb score of 45pts. Eoin has been playing very consistent golf of late and with a back nine of one over par (25pts) this was enough to win by three shots.

In second place was Leo Connolly with a score of 42pts. With a brilliant front nine of 23pts, Leo can probably count himself unlucky not to take home first prize.

Past captain Barry Conroy finished in third place on 40pts. The gross winner was Conor Farrelly who shot a four over par score on Sunday.

Professional Prize Weekend 31st/1st Sept - 1st Eoin Morrissey (PH.16) – 45pts; 2nd Leo Connolly (PH.19) – 42pts; 3rd Barry Conroy (PH.20) – 40pts; Gross- Conor Farrelly (PH.4) – 33pts; Non Qualifier Michael McCartan (PH.19) – 36pt.

Mannan Castle Seniors

After last week's Senior Captain's Prize it was back to the regular weekly competition for Mannan Castle seniors. The 9 hole competition was competed for by a sizeable field of enthusiastic golfers.

The best score of the day was recorded by Sam Duffy who's steady play yielded an excellent score of 22 points. His three finishing holes produced no less than 10 points and were responsible for his taking the overall win.

In Category 1 Liam Morrissey also had a good finish with pars on his last two holes. This was complemented by two further pars in his score of 18 points which was good for a category win.

Michael Johnson was the clear winner in Category 2 where steady scoring resulted in victory with a score of 20 points. Kieran Lonergan also signed for 20 points in Category 3 getting a long overdue win. He had only one blemish on his card which included two excellent pars.

Tuesday 3rd September 9 Hole Competition (9 hole handicap) - Overall: Sam Duffy (16) 22pts; Category 1: Liam Morrissey (7) 18pts; Category 2: Michael Johnson (12) 20pts; Category 3: Kieran Lonergan (16) 20pts.

Mannan Castle Ladies

No better demonstration that golf is a game for all ages than this week's prizewinning top three. Kitty Sharkey has been excelling at sport all her life and a less than perfect start wasn't going to define her this week.

A rock steady round followed, with a par on the long 15th one of the highlights, Kitty scored 39 points for a clear win. Louise Hanratty is having an exceptional season, with several previous podium finishes already under her belt.

Our lowest handicapper carded ten pars as well as three birdies in close succession in the middle of her round, taking second place on countback with 37 points.

Natasha McCahey is no stranger to the winning circle when she gets to play.  Only just pipped into third by a couple of no scores, six pars including on the 5th and 15th, helped build her total of 37 points.
