Hugh Callaghan who receieved the Vounteer of the Year award

It was before a full capacity audience that Dunleer Tidy Towns made their annual awards at the Climate Change Centre for the North East on the Campus of the Market House on Main Street Dunleer on Thursday, November 21st .

The evening began at 7.30pm with an address from the Chairman of the Tidy Towns Edmund Mathews who welcomed the winners in this year’s competition along with the pupils and parents for the art competition result.

He also welcomed local representatives Cllrs Kevin Callan Cathaoirleach, Cllr. Bernie Conlon, Cllr Paula Butterly and Cllr. Delores Minogue to the Community Awards presentation.

The Secretary Pat Roche was MC for the night. He presented many slides of Dunleer during the Summer months and gave a list of the projects completed during the season, along with a list of the plans for 2025.

Dunleer again managed to increase their markings by 13 overall which is similar to last years results.

There were 17 awards made to different garden owners in different estates in Dunleer.

Six of the primary school children attending Scoil Bhride in Dunleer were also awarded prizes for their art on the subject of Bio- Diversity.

Special awards went to David Doyle from Monasterboice who won the prize for litter picking on each Friday of the year for the last three years.

The overall winner of the Garden Competition was Gary Kelly from Drumcar Road Dunleer with a well -managed mix of flowers and shrubs helping to bring him to victory.

The prize for the outstanding Volunteer of the Year went to Hugh Callaghan a former member of Dunleer Tidy Towns Committee but even still an active volunteer.

The hall was packed to capacity with parents and children for the art competition and the winners and runner up of the garden competition.

Cllr Kevin Callan Cathaoirleach made the presentations to the winners and runners up of the garden competition along with Councillor Bernie Conlon.

Cllr Paula Butterly made the special presentations for Volunteer of the Year Special Recognition and the overall best Garden Award 2024.

Cllr Kevin Callan addressed the audience at the beginning of the evening saying that he was delighted to be present and lend his to support to great community event.

Cllr. Paula Butterly spoke of the joy it was for her, to be part of this community event and congratulated all the prize winners.
Copies of this years Tidy Towns report for the Tidy Towns Together were available after the event to all interested parties.

A great night was had by all.

The night concluded with tea coffee and finger food at the end of the presentations.
