'What's the Story' exhibition in An Táin
An Táin Arts Centre said it is delighted to present ‘What’s the Story?’ an exhibition of creative writing and visual arts created by residents of twelve care homes in County Louth.
The year long project, culminating in an exhibition in the Basement Gallery, opens tomorrow, Wednesday 11th January at 2:30pm and will run until February 4th and was funded by Louth Leader Partnership.
The care home residents began working with Story Facilitator Sarah Guppy to reflect on memories and imagine new stories through a series of creative writing workshops.
These stories were then visually interpreted by residents from six different care homes, with the facilitation and support of Visual Artists Rozzi Kennedy and Orlaith Cullinane.
This project is following on from An Táin Arts Centre’s previous work with care home residents on such projects as Signed Sealed and Delivered and Pride of Place.
Paul Hayes, Director of An Táin Arts Centre said: “As a community focussed arts space we are very aware that not all members of our community have the privilege of being able to come into our building to experience and participate art.
“Working with care homes to bring these opportunities for creativity to the residents there, is something that is very important to us.
“The work in this exhibition is very unique in that it allowed for one group of residents to visually interpret the creative writing written by a different group and I think it is very thought provoking.”
There is also a booklet that has been created containing the writings and paintings that will be available for free from the Basement Gallery at An Táin Arts Centre.
The care homes involved include: Curam Care Home, Dundalk; St Francis’ Care Home, Dundalk; The Sisters of Mercy, Dundalk; Blackrock Abbey; Carlingford Nursing Home St Peters; Trinity Care, Castlebellingham; St Joseph’s Hospital, Ardee; Moorehall Lodge, Ardee; Sunhill Nursing Home, Termonfeckin; Boyne View House, Drogheda; St Mary’s Hospital & Aras Mhuire, Drogheda; Medical Missionaries of Mary (M.M.M.), Drogheda.
