Mannan Castle Men

One of the rounds of the year took place on Sunday morning, with Darren O’Reilly shooting an incredible 46 points, which included three birdies and eight pars, helping him win by one shot.

Mark Lambe won Division One with a score of 39pts. A back nine of 20pts won it for him on the count back. Runner-up was Paul McVeigh with 39pts.

Gerry McMahan won Division Two with a score of 36pts. No surprise to see Gerry in the winner’s enclosure again after having a stellar year so far. Paddy Byrne finished in second place with 35pts.

Division Three was won by Kevin Gavigan with a brilliant 45pts. A front nine of 22pts was followed up with a back nine of 23pts. Runner-up was Ricky McKeown with 42pts.

Sean Wakely won Division Four with a brilliant 43pts. A back nine of 26pts, 20pts on his last six holes, absolutely brilliant golf. David Hughes finished in second place with 41pts.

Weekend Singles Stableford Saturday, 11th October and Sunday, 12th October

Overall Winner - Darren O’Reilly (PH.18) – 46pts; Division One: 1st - Mark Lambe (PH.1) - 39pts c/b; 2nd - Paul McVeigh (PH.9) – 39pts. Division Two: 1st - Gerry McMahan (PH.12) – 36pts; 2nd - Paddy Byrne (PH.14) – 35pts.

Division Three: 1st - Kevin Gavigan (PH.20) – 45pts; 2nd - Ricky McKeown (PH.21) – 42pts. Division Four: 1st - Sean Wakely (PH.26) – 43pts; 2nd - David Hughes (PH.38) – 41pt.

Some very tricky pin positions were encountered by Mannan Castle senior golfers in their weekly competition. The difficulty was reflected in the scores returned for the nine holes.

Dick Bourke (PH7) stuck well to the task at hand and was rewarded with pars in his final three holes to card 19 points and overall victory.

Paddy Kingham (PH9) followed up last week's win in Category One with a repeat despite a two-point penalty. Paddy scored 18 points, which included three pars and left him with a nett 16 points.

Both Category Two and Three were won with 17 points. Richard Rountree (PH12) took Category Two thanks to steady golf and scoring on each hole. Patrick Breen (PH16) in Category Three had a great finish to his round, scoring seven points on his final two holes.

Overall: Dick Bourke  (7) 19pts; Category One: Paddy Kingham (9) 16pts (18-2); Category Two: Richard Rountree (12) 17pts; Category Three: Patrick Breen (16) 17pts.

Mannan Castle Women

Very damp conditions and punishing rough curtailed scoring this week, with the top three each failing to score on three holes. Fresh from a victory away at the weekend, Mary Cassidy continued her winning ways with the top score of 32 pts.

Also back from warm weather training, Jo Barry picks up yet another prize this week, topping Division One with 31 pts, and Noreen Murphy was the best in Division Two, finishing with 30 pts.
