Dundalk man, Timmy Egan, prepares to step into the boxing ring at the world-famous Madison Square Garden next week.
The 30-year-old will be boxing in the 165lbs novice title at the prestigious Ringmasters Tournament (formerly the Golden Gloves) in New York on Thursday, 10th April at approx 1.00am Irish time.
Originally from Muirhevnamor, Timmy emigrated to the United States in 2013 and began working behind the bar, he is currently still a barman in McQuaids, New York.

A former student of St. Joseph’s National School and O’Fiaich College, Timmy was no stranger to sport growing up as he played football, GAA, and boxing.
In his younger years he was a member of Clann Naofa Boxing Club, played football for Muirhevnamor FC, lined out with Na Piarsaigh GAA, and made the Louth GAA U15 panel.
Though he stepped away from boxing for a while, he returned to the sport just two years ago and trains out of Bua Boxing Club in Astoria, Queens.
His coach is former Roscommon senior inter-county footballer David Ward, who set up the club and made history himself in 2019 by becoming the first Irishman in over two decades to reach the New York Golden Gloves final.
This latest chapter in Timmy’s journey is one his family back home in Dundalk is beaming with pride about. His father, David Egan, spoke to the Dundalk Democrat ahead of the fight.
He said: “Me, his mother Theresa, his two sisters, and four brothers are so proud of him for what he has achieved after he left home on his own. Not only is he representing Dundalk, but he is also representing Louth in America.
“The first thing he asked me for was a Muirhevnamor flag so he could wear it when going out into the ring. We have sent one over so hopefully that will arrive in time for him to wear it.
“It is a great achievement for a young fella from the town. It shows young people that you can make it in life if you work hard and follow your dreams.”
