The Embassy Snooker Club, Dundalk, played host to the David Cooney Memorial Shield in a thrilling evening of snooker last week.

The final saw Aidan ‘Mouse’ Kinsella go head-to-head with Ken Byrne and after three hours of quality play, Byrne emerged victorious with a 5-2 win over Kinsella.

With the competition getting bigger each year, the Embassy Snooker Club continues to serve the local snooker scene while honoring one of Dundalk’s finest ever players.

He said: “The final was held last Tuesday at seven o'clock between Aidan ‘Mouse’ Kinsella and Ken Byrne. It was a great three hours of snooker for the David Cooney Memorial Shield.

“The score ended up that Ken Bone beat Mouse Kinsella 5-2. It was a great standard of snooker, and I'd like to thank all the Cooney family who let me run this annually for David Cooney to keep his memory alive.

“In third place was Ryan ‘Titch’ Carroll who is another great player. Prize money was over €1000 this year and hopefully it will be bigger and better next year.

“His son Jordan Cooney was the referee. It's just to keep his memory alive in the world, in Dundalk’s world of snooker.

“He was the best snooker player that Dundalk ever had in my eyes, he is very well liked and his family are delighted that I have a snooker club and are keeping his name going.”
