The Medical Missionaries of Mary community is mourning the peaceful passing of Sr Mairead (Bridget) Gorman, who left this world on February 11, at Aras Mhuire Nursing Facility in Drogheda, Co Louth.
Born in Madden, Co Armagh, Sr Mairead's life journey took her to various corners of the world, including Uganda, England, Tanzania, and Ethiopia. She dedicated her life to the service of others as a member of the Medical Missionaries of Mary, leaving an indelible mark on the communities she served.
Sr Mairead was predeceased by her parents, James and Mary Ellen, as well as her brothers Packie and Murty, and her sisters Annie Therese, Mary Catherine, and Elizabeth. While mourning her passing, her devoted friends, along with their families, cherish the memories of a beloved aunt who touched their lives with compassion and care.
Among the tributes pouring in, one niece said: "Rest in peace Auntie Bridget. You will be remembered in our house as a strong inspiring woman who lived a life of service that touched countless lives." Another fondly recalled, "Rest in peace Auntie Bridget. I have lovely memories of our time with you in Ethiopia."
The outpouring of condolences extends beyond the family, with one heartfelt message expressing, "Sincere condolences to Sister Mairead's extended family, her community, and her carers. The work of the sisters worldwide and at home should be remembered with pride, and may she rest in a well-deserved peace after a lifetime of service at home and abroad."
Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, February, 15 at 11 am in the Convent, Beechgrove, and will provide an opportunity for family, friends, and community members to come together and celebrate Sr Mairead's life of service.
