POLL: What should Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Louth's new name be?
University Hospital Drogheda
Our Lady of Lourdes, Drogheda's Regional Hospital
Drogheda General Hospital
Drogheda Regional Hospital
Do not change the name at all
Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda is to be renamed in 2019, according to reports received last week.
The plan has generated quite a bit of discussion on social media since the plan was revealed, with local politicians among those voicing their views on the matter.
Among those voicing their views was Fine Gael's Fergus O'Dowd, who said
“The ethos of the Lourdes hospital must be secular in every way. Nevertheless my personal opinion is that the hospital name should remain as is.”
“Mother Mary Martin and the Medical Missionaries of Mary built the original hospital with the help and support from the people of the town and indeed the entire country.”
“There is a possible compromise and that is to leave the name as is and add one of the proposed names IE “Our Lady of Lourdes, Drogheda’s Regional Hospital.”
So in light of this, the Dundalk Democrat has decided to get the views of the people of north Louth on renaming "The Lourdes".
Would you change the name or leave it as it is?
What would you call it?
Considering many people refer to it simply as "The Lourdes", would it be a compromise to officially give it this name?
We have included some of the options voiced up to this point as well as the option to leave it as it is.
So its over to you now, what do you think?
