NEFL Division Three

Donacarney Celtic 3-1 Glenmuir FC

Glenmuir FC’s Division Three title challenge was ended with defeat to Donacarney Celtic on Sunday.

Wayne Conroy’s men took the lead in the first half when Edgar Bitanius met Seán Bailey’s inviting free-kick and they had several further chances to extend the lead, one of which saw Bailey rattle the crossbar.

But having conceded just before half-time, they were left disjointed by the injury enforced departures of Niall Hand, Luke Murray and Eibhin Caldwell either side of the break as Donacarney took a foothold on proceedings.

However, Glenmuir continued to hold firm, knowing they needed a win to keep their league hopes alive.

Two goals in the final 10 minutes swayed the contest the home side’s way, though, and the Hoey’s Lane team finished with 10 players after the dismissal of Bailey on a second yellow card.

Glenmuir FC: David McKenny; Brian McGuirk, Edgar Bitanius, Colm Matthews, Niall Hand; Luke Murray, David O’Donovan, Dermot Grier, Eibhin Caldwell; Daniel Mullen, Seán Bailey

Subs: Keith Morris, Willie Kelly, Seán Maguire, Liam McKenny, Peter McStravick
