NEFL Division Two
Redeemer Celtic 7-0 Navan Cosmos
Barry Carr fired a hat-trick, while Kian Newell scored twice on his first senior start as Redeemer Celtic opened their NEFL Division Two campaign with a 7-0 thrashing of Navan Cosmos in Muirhevnamor on Sunday afternoon.
The Cox’s outfit led by five at the break, with Newell on the scoresheet twice, and a brace from his strike partner, Carr, wrapped up a convincing victory in the second period.
Dean McConnell put Redeemer ahead with a neat finish before Stephen Smith - who impressed alongside Kevin McCormack in midfield - and Newell made it 3-0.
A first of the day for Carr extended the cushion before Newell added a fifth before the turnaround.
Carr’s double put a considerable gap between the teams at full-time.
On an afternoon where all of Redeemer’s players impressed, the club’s U19s, Newell, McCormack and Kian McEvoy among them, were particularly outstanding, just 24 hours after playing in the Summer League final against Rock Celtic at Oriel Park.
Redeemer Celtic: Kyle Murphy; Caolan Carroll, Paul Gartland, Niall Kelly, Andy McDermott; Dean McConnell, Stephen Smith, Kevin McCormack, Kian McEvoy; Kian Newell, Barry Carr
