NEFL Division Two

Oldcastle United 1-10 Woodview Celtic

Dennis Cholach marked his debut with a hat-trick as Woodview Celtic opened their Division Two campaign with a mightily impressive 10-1 win away to Oldcastle United on Sunday morning.

The former Quay Celtic man, who started up front, but finished at centre-back, rattled in three in the first half to ease his team into a comfortable lead at the break.

Conor Macken’s charges then struck seven times after the interval to seal a scarcely comprehensible margin of victory.

Having broken the deadlock early on, Cholach’s second on 10 minutes was a goal of beauty. A move involving upwards on 30 passes resulted in Gavin Gaffey putting over a teasing ball which Cholach volleyed to the net.

Shane Taaffe’s dismissal on a second yellow card gave Oldcastle hope of a comeback, but goals from Niall Mackin (2), Robert Mackin, Conor Mackin, Gaffey, Caolan Dines and Deane Browne, across a 25-minute spell, eased the visitors into a 10-0 advantage.

Gaffey’s strike to make it 8-0 was the pick of the bunch.

Woodview did concede, however, with full-time fast approaching. But the goal had little impact on the match overall as the Dundalk side rubber-stamped their promotion credentials with an early, landslide victory
