Dermot McKenna wins Sunday's Stableford on countback at Dundalk Golf Club

Dundalk Golf Club.

Sunday’s 14 Hole Singles Stableford was won on countback by Dermot McKenna (22) whose final nine holes yielded 21pts which was one more than Neil Mullooly.

The two had tied on 33pts, along with Patrick Wadding (23) who finished third with Ollie Reilly (14) fourth on 32pts.

McKenna got off to a good start with a three point par on the first and by the time he walked off the index one fourth he was on 11pts after a par on the long par four yielded him four points.

He only picked up one point on the short fifth but pars on the two par-fives yielded three and four points respectively and he also parred the par four eighth for another three points.

That left him on 22pts after eight holes and he picked up two points at each of the next three holes before stumbling slightly at the 12th and 13th where double bogeys yield one point returns.

However, he managed a four at the par four 14th and those three points were what allowed him to pip Mullooly for overall victory. Mullooly did have the consolation of recording the day’s best gross score of 28pts

Brian Mernagh (11), Dessie Ward (13) and Benny O’Shaughnessy (21) were the three category winners.

Caolan Rafferty’s great season was recognised by Leinster Golf at their Annual Delegate Meeting recently when he received the Senior Order of Merit Award.
