Sunday saw heavy rain and windy conditions throughout the day. This didn’t affect Ronan Donaghy. With a score of 21 on the front nine, Ronan finished his round on a score of 28pts.
Division 2 was won by John Minnock with a great score of 30pts. John played the last 4 holes in level par to post a strong score.
Playing out of his skin of late, Joe McGeown won division 3 with a score of 31pts. Joe started with four 3 pointers in a row. He continued great golf in tough conditions.

27th/28th January 2024Winning division one this weekend was Paul Kellett with a score of 31pts. Paul shot an incredible 26pts on the front nine. Runner up was Terry Kiernan with a score of 29pts.
Division 2 was won by Pat Sheridan on a score of 31pts. With a very solid front nine of 22pts, Pat finished his round off well, beating George Farrelly by one shot.
The score of the weekend came in Division 3. Barry Murphy shot an impressive 36pts on Sunday morning. With 3 birdies in his round and 21pts on the front nine, Barry finished like a steam train with 15pts on his final 4 holes. Runner up was Derek Donnelly with a score of 32pts.

Winning division 1 this weekend was Craig Armstrong. Craig shot an impressive 30pts, with the highlight of his round coming on the 8th hole with a brilliant 2. Runner up was Alan Boylan with a score of 29pts.
Our ex-captain Barry Conroy played some incredible golf on Sunday by shooting a score of 33pts. Barry played steady golf on the front 8 holes but turned on the style with 14pts for the final 5 holes. Finishing in second place was John Rouiller with an also impressive 33pts.
Kevin Gavigan has been so consistent of late and produced another great round this weekend. Kevin posted a brilliant 32pts to hold off another consistent player in Derek Donnelly. Derek finished one back on 31pts.

St. Brigid’s Day Bank Holiday Open
The first open of the year was held on bank holiday Monday. With a brilliant turnout, it was no surprise to see the scoring so good.
Taking first place was Shane Jackson and Stephen Aherne with a score of nett 38.
Finishing in second place was Gary Capaldi and Stephen Corrigan on a score of nett 40. Losing out to the lads on the count back were Noel Sherlock and Barry McArdle who also shot a score of nett 40.

Mannan Castle Seniors
Despite a long delay due to frost, a good turnout of Mannan Castle seniors played an enjoyable 11 hole competition in glorious sunshine.
In category 1, Richard Mulholland was the clear winner thanks to 5 pars which resulted in an overall score of 28 points with Eamon Trainor in second place with 26 points.
Category 2, saw a very close finish between Kevin Gavigan and Jim Hanratty. Kevin's recent good form continued but it also resulted in him having a two-point penalty. Jim was also subject to a one-point penalty.
After their deductions they each finished on 29 points with Jim winning on countback.
11 Hole Competition Tuesday 30th January 2024
Category 1: Richard Mulholland (19) 28pts
Category 2: Jim Hanratty (26) (30-1) 29pts c/b
A good turnout enjoyed a competitive round of golf over 11 holes with some excellent scores being returned.
In category 1 Philip Burns had his first seniors win with a steady score of 25 points. A little more luck with the putter would have seen an exceptional score.
Category 2 once again saw Kevin Gavigan in contention for first place but he again fell foul of a penalty deduction which reduced his score from 30 to 29 points. He then lost out to his playing partner Gerry Smyth on countback. Back six scores were 17 for Gerry and 16 for Kevin.
In category 3 Bernard Crawley was the clear winner. He returned the best score of 31 points on the day.

Mannan Castle Ladies
The weather hasn’t been great but a few brave lady golfers faced the elements and hit the fairways both last week and this week. Hopefully temperatures rise and the rain eases so we all can get back to playing golf again. Marie Finnegan won last week’s competition; she had a rocky start but settled herself after the 6th hole to win beat Cepta Maddick by one point.15th January 2024 - 13 Hole Weekly Competition

The week’s winner Mary McCabe had a mediocre front nine, but she scored an impressive 11 pts on hole 10 thru’ 13 to win.

Aine Fitzmaurice and Cepta Maddick were not messing around both scoring 27pts on 13 holes. Cepta Maddick had a cracking 19 points on the front nine, finishing with 27pts overall. But Aine Fitzmaurice is this week’s winner claiming top spot as she scored 11pts on holes 10 thru 13.

2nd Cepta Maddick (25) 27pts
Angela McBride had a solid 18 points on her front nine, but secured her win with two 4-point pars on the back few holes, finishing with 29pts.
Our second place finisher Marie Finnegan started her round with two pars, Marie has been playing steady golf.
Cepta Maddick once again in the top three this week.
Great scoring ladies, delighted to see so many gals hit the fairways this week, 28 played which was an excellent turnout for this time of year and the green are in fantastic shape.
