Albion Rovers 3-4 Woodview Celtic

Woodview Celtic moved into the last four of the Kilmessan Shield on Friday night thanks to braces apiece from Robert Mackin and Dennis Cholach.

Wayne Conroy’s men led the match against Division One Albion Rovers 4-1 shortly after half-time and while the hosts fought back to within one goal, Woodview held on to book a date against either Enfield Celtic or Hazel Lane United.

Despite struggling to find form recently, the Dundalk men were at it from the off, taking the lead via Mackin in the early stages.

And while Albion drew level, Cholach, who was integral to his team’s first goal, put Woodview back in front, finishing neatly after brave approach play.

It got even better for Woodview, too, when Mackin scored the Goal of the Season from inside his own half. An Albion clearance was chested down by the winger and on the half-volley he cracked home, lobbing the Albion ‘keeper from roughly 10 yards inside his own half, sparking wild scenes of celebration among the travelling contingent.

Cholach made it 4-1 shortly after the break, though Woodview failed to add to their total as a combination of an injury to Mackin and a comeback from Albion halted their dominance.

Albion halved their deficit with 15 minutes to go before scoring a third with the final kick.

Woodview Celtic: Rory Staunton; Shea McArdle, Daniel Mulligan, Dylan Thornton, Stephen Begley; Robert Mackin, Robbie Curran, Kyle Carroll, Deane Browne; Niall Mackin, Dennis Cholach
