RIP: Community in mourning as girl, 17, dies in horse-riding incident in Kerry

A 17-year-old girl in Kerry tragically died in a horse riding incident outside her home causing shock and heartbreak for her family, friends and her community.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of the fatal incident where the teenage girl fell off a horse and was found dead at the scene.

The tragedy occurred in Killarney in Kerry on Thursday 26th June 2025 at approximately 5pm.

The girls body has since been removed to hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Fr Kieran O’Brien told the Independent that the entire community is shocked at the tragic death of the young girl whose life was cut short ‘doing something she loved’.

"We offer our prayers and support to the family at this difficult time and to her fellow teenagers,” he said.

The HSA said in a statement that they are aware of the incident and have launched an investigation.
