Many might be wondering why Irish social media star James Kavanagh's outfit looks oddly familiar...
Appearing at the Platinum VIP Style Awards in Dublin, the content creator's blazer was met with an array of smiles and raised eyebrows as it was made from none other than the fabric from the seats of the beloved Dart transit line!
Speaking on this across his social media, the personality said, "So growing up in Dublin, I was always obsessed with the fabric of the seats of the Dart. I thought it was beautiful! The VIP Style Awards were coming up and I was like, 'What am I gonna wear?' so I just had the idea of wearing a blazer, oversized. Now, I wanted it to be kind of almost verging on Balenciaga, like very structured, big shoulders.
"I emailed Irish rail, and I said, 'Could I please have some fabric to make myself blazer?' and they very kindly sent me out some fabric. Now, fresh fabric hadn't been sat on," he joked.

The fabric was originally chosen by a Dublin woman named Ann Scully who worked for the chief executive of Córas Iompair Éireann at the time that plans were being constructed for the Dart in 1983. Ann was known for her fashionable ways and so was intrusted with this. Clearly the right decision was made as 41 years later the fabric has now made its way onto the red carpet!
James continued: "I got it (the fabric) and I put a thing up, and I was like, 'I need a blazer made, who's a great tailor?' and so many people recommended Michael Johnson Tailors in Tullow in Carlow. They also have done work for Michael D Higgins, they've made some of his suits. So I immediately got onto them and straight away he replied, 'Yes, I can do that.' So went in, brought the fabric. He measured me up. He's one of the best tailors in Ireland I've since realized."
In a world where style on the red carpets can often look similar, James has managed to stand out and not with diamonds or designer labels, but instead, with a nod to the daily grind in Dublin.
By turning the Dart seat fabric into a stunning, high-fashion look, he has proved that style, much like comedy, is all about the right material.
