A motorist caught speeding on the M9 motorway who tested positive for a dangerous combination of drugs gave gardaí a sorry excuse when stopped.
The Roads Policing Unit in Kilkenny stopped the driver after clocking them doing 152km/h in a 120km/h. Once stopped, the driver failed the roadside drug test, testing positive for three substances.
In a post on social media, gardaí described it as "a potentially lethal mix", saying the combination of high speed and drug use posed a serious risk to road users.
"Kilkenny Roads Policing Unit were out checking motorists speed this morning when they detected the driver of this vehicle travelling 152km/h on the on the M9 outside Kilkenny.
"When we asked why he felt that he could take such a risk, he told us he was late for a flight at the airport."
