'The world is that bit worse off without him' - Tributes paid as Hardy Bucks star found dead at home

A man who was found dead at a house in Westport has been named as Swinford native Alan ‘Ali’ Carter.

Mr Carter, who was in his 30s, was found unresponsive in a property on the old Castlebar Road, in the early hours of yesterday (Monday) morning. Gardaí have launched an investigation into his death.

Mr Carter also played soccer with Swinford Football Club, who extended their condolences to his family in a tribute on social media.

He also played a role in The Hardy Bucks, a popular internet and television series set in Swinford - which is known as Castletown in the show.

Local county councillor John Caulfield described his passing as ‘another blow for Swinford’, which has experienced a number of tragedies in recent months. 

His remains will be reposing in his home in Rathcluain, Kiltimagh on Thursday, August 29, from 3pm until 7 pm.

Funeral Mass takes place in Our Lady Help of Christians Church, Swinford on Friday, August 30, at 12 noon before burial in Kilconduff Cemetery, Swinford. The Mass will be streamed live. 

He is predeceased by his grandparents and father-in-law Tommy and will be deeply missed and loved by his partner Lorraine, daughter Aleisha, parents Geraldine and John, brothers Kevin and Gordon, sisters-in-law Aoife and Liona, and Caroline Carney, nephews Cormac and Jonah, aunts, uncles, cousins, work colleagues and many friends.

Many were quick to leave condolences online, with one saying: "We've known him for a long time out here in Frankfurt, and been through many ups and downs with him. Ali was a gentleman, true and true".

"Always a smile on his face and great craic whether on the job or out having the craic. He will be sorely missed and never forgotten. The world is that bit worse off without him".
