Sinn Féin spokesperson Pa Daly Td has called for the government to scrap their Hate Speech legislation.
Teachta Daly said:
“Government must scrap their Hate Speech legislation. It is abundantly clear that this legislation has been badly thought through and is not fit for purpose. It must not proceed."
“I am calling on the the leader of Fine Gael, Simon Harris, to clarify whether it is his intention to press ahead with the Hate Speech Bill."
“Sinn Féin has raised a number of serious concerns about flaws in this legislation as it has proceeded through the Oirecahtas. Unfortunately the government has pressed ahead bullishly without taking on board any of the concerns which have been raised by Sinn Féin and others. It is for this reason that we voted against the legislation in the Seanad in June.
“It is clear to me and to Sinn Féin that this Bill does not have support across the political spectrum. It must be scrapped. Simon Harris must make his position clear as a matter of urgency.”
