Irish Rail have warned passengers travelling for Christmas of "significant delays" after a tragic incident.

They took to X, formerly Twitter, on Saturday to warn travellers between Sligo and Dublin of the incident and delays.

They said: "Significant disruption to all Connolly/Sligo services in both directions until further notice as emergency services attend tragic incident on line at Enfield."

"The 11:05 Sligo/Connolly service is currently stopped between Mullingar and Enfield due to a tragic incident on the line.

"Emergency services are responding," they added.
