A man has died after an assault at a home in Limerick.
One man has been arrested following the incident, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday.
Gardai responded to reports of an assault at a property in Sarsfield Avenue, Garryowen at around 4.45am on Saturday.
On arrival, a man aged in his 40s was found unresponsive outside the house.
Ambulance personnel attended and tended to the man. He was pronounced dead a short time later.
A man, also aged in his 40s, was arrested at the scene.
He was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a Garda station in Limerick.
The body of the man remained at the scene on Saturday morning.
The area has been cordoned off to facilitate a technical examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.
The coroner has been notified and the services of the Office of the State Pathologist have been requested.
Gardai have appealed to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact them.
