Double tragedy as two people are killed in overnight crashes in Dublin and Limerick
Two people lost their lives in road crashes overnight on Wednesday as gardaí responded to fatal accidents in Limerick and Dublin.
The first accident occurred at the Cross Guns Bridge on Phibsborough Road, Dublin 7, at 9.10pm on Wednesday when a car struck a pedestrian.
The collision involved a car and a pedestrian. A woman in her 60s was pronounced deceased at the scene a short time later. Her body has since been removed from the scene. A post mortem will take place in due course.
The car involved failed to remain at the scene.
The scene of the collision is preserved for technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. The section of road from Cross Guns Bridge to the junction of Phibsborough Road and Connaught Street is closed and local diversions are in place.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.
Any road users with camera footage (including dashcam) who travelled in the Phibsborough area between 8.30pm and 9.30pm on Wednesday 4th October 2023 are asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.
An incident room has been set up at Mountjoy Garda Station.

Separately, a pedestrian was killed in a crash in Limerick. Gardaí and emergency Services attended the scene on the N69 - Glin to Tarbert Road, Co. Limerick yesterday evening.
The collision occurred at approximately 10pm and involved a car and a pedestrian.
"A male, aged in his 70s, was pronounced deceased at the scene. His body has been removed to University Hospital Limerick where a port mortem will take place," gardaí said.
"No other injuries have been reported.
"The road is currently closed for an examination by Forensic Collision Investigators. Local diversions are in place."
Gardaí in Newcastlewest are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.
Any road users who were travelling on the N69 between Glin and Tarbert yesterday evening between 9:00pm and 10:15pm, and who may have camera footage (including dash-cam), is asked to make this available to Gardaí.
