Man arrested in Irish town after fleeing his home country

A MAN was arrested in Birr after fleeing his home country and sent to the High Court recently.

On Friday, July 14, the man in his 30s, was searched for drugs while he was walking in Scurragh, Birr, and gardai found a small quantity of cannabis on his person.

During the search they also discovered that he was from an Eastern European country and there was a European Arrest Warrant for him.

According to gardai, he was arrested and kept overnight in a cell in Birr Garda Station before being taken to the High Court.

According to gardai, the man received a prison conviction in his home country and afterwards fled the country, coming to Ireland. He remains in custody.
