Citroën C3 Aircross
When you launch a new version of your best-selling model here in Ireland, it’s a big thing. It’s an even bigger thing when you also launch another important model at exactly the same time. That’s what Citroën did last week when they invited me to the launch of their two all-new new Aircross models, the C5 and the C3. Both benefit hugely from Citroën’s current design language and those rear lights on the C5 Aircross are simply begging to be copied.
The C5 Aircross is their best seller and you won’t be surprised that it’s an SUV. I have a soft spot for the C5 Aircross, as it was always a very comfortable car in a sector that does not have the physical conditions to deliver a dynamic and comfortable ride. This new C5 Aircross takes it to even higher levels again. As my personal mileage increases comfort and quietness are traits in a car I prize and the levels on offer here are incredible.
On the motorway and back roads to get to Kilkea Castle the C5 Aircross showed just how good at doing that is possible. Citroën ‘s Magic Carpet claim is delivered to the letter. This is exalted territory and if you have these as top requirements then prepare to be smitten. The C5 Aircross comes in three trims, all-electric and hybrid powerplants with pricing starting from at an eye-catching €39,300
The smaller C3 Aircross is also welcome and overdue as sales of it dried up last year probably in anticipation of the new model. The most notable things about the new model are that it has grown by 230mm and because of that it allows Citroën to offer a 7-seater model for the first time. I tried them and would happily sit in the third row for an hour or two. In the flesh you really notice how it has swelled and it is quite an imposing car for the sector it finds itself in.

The 5-seater version is available with petrol, hybrid and an all-electric drivetrains with the 7-seater unavailable as an all-electric that is contra to the flow towards everything electric. All C3 Aircross models have Citroën’s Advanced Comfort suspension, automatic air conditioning, 10.25 inch touchscreen with wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, cruise control, rear parking sensors with reversing camera and 17'' diamond-cut alloy wheels as standard. And amazingly, Citroën can do all this for an asking price of just €27,790 for the 5-seater and €28,990 for the 7-seater. A lot of young and growing families are going to be very pleased by that.
Both Aircross models reassuringly come with Citroën’s 5-year unlimited mileage warranty, 3 year’s roadside assistance and free home charger for electric and plug-in hybrid models.
