Dundalk Credit Union
International Women's Day is an opportunity to reflect on the strength, leadership, and contribution of women in our communities, and within Dundalk Credit Union they are proud to continue a legacy shaped by women from the very beginning.
When Norc Herlihy helped establish Ireland's first credit union in 1958, she laid a foundation built on inclusion, cooperation, and empowerment. Values that continue to guide credit unions across the Island of Ireland today.
Since Dundalk Credit Union first opened its doors in 1968, women have played a central role in shaping their direction and serving their members, a Dundalk Credit Union spokesperson said.
“From the earliest days, women sat on our Board, helping guide important decisions and ensuring that the credit union remained rooted in community values.
“Over the years, women have made up the majority of our staff, bringing dedication, professionalism, and compassion to every member interaction.
“Their commitment has helped create the welcoming, supportive environment our members know and trust today.
“Our support for women extends beyond our offices and into the wider community.
“Over the years we have been proud sponsors of Louth Ladies GAA, Dundalk Ladies FC and numerous LGFA clubs, supporting athletes who demonstrate determination, teamwork, and excellence.

“We are equally proud to encourage the next generation through our partnership with Town Scientist Niamh Shaw and our Women in STEM scholarship in DkIT, helping young women explore opportunities, develop confidence, and realise their potential in fields where their voices and talents are essential.

“We have also been honoured to partner with inspiring brand ambassadors who represent the very best of our community, including Colette O'Hagan, Amy Broadhurst, Zoe Conway, and Kate O'Connor.

“Each of these women reflect the resilience, ambition, and pride that defines Dundalk and inspires others to follow their path.
“Today, and every day, Dundalk Credit Union is proud to stand behind and beside the women of our community, those who lead, those who serve, and those who inspire.
“On International Women's Day, we recognise their invaluable contribution and reaffirm our commitment to supporting women and girls in every stage of their journey, now and into the future.
“We Believe in Community.”
