The Drogheda side were in charge throughout this encounter, and two second-half goals from Chris Cudden capped a satisfactory performance for the hosts.
The Tones settled quickly into the game and kicked six first-half points, and that saw them secure a healthy halftime advantage as the Mals failed to raise a flag before the short whistle.
It was better for the Courtbane men in the second period as they found the net through Emmet Mullen while Dean Murtagh landed three points, including a two-pointer. However, Wolfe Tones were never in any real danger as Cudden’s brace sealed victory.
Eoghan Brennan also had a good outing as he finished with four points, while Rory Taaffe came off the bench to add three for the winners.

Annaghminnon Rovers 1-12 St Nicholas 4-15
St Nicholas got their Kevin Mullen Shield campaign off to a winning start when they proved too strong for Annaghminnon Rovers on Sunday morning.
This Group 3 encounter was in the balance up until the interval, but the second half was dominated by the Nicks as they emerged with a comfortable win in Stonetown.
Con Sheehan scored the opening goal for the Drogheda men, and that strike was pivotal in ensuring that his side had the edge at the break on a 1-7 to 1-5 scoreline.
However, it was a different story when the teams emerged for the second half as the Nicks took firm control. They certainly made their dominance count as Shane Downey added two goals, along with another three-pointer from Ross Brady.
Hayden Quinn, Fionn Meagher and Philip Kirwan were also on the scoresheet as their side eased home.
