Happy New Year from CúChulainn Archers.
Having had a break for Christmas, members of the Louth archery club hit the roads again this weekend with seventeen members of the club travelling to competitions - one at Kilmore Archery Club in Co. Armagh and the other in Waterford City.

15 members of the club travelled to Kilmore for a Double Indoor Round - their first competition of 2026. All 15 did extremely well, with the results as follows:
Aoife McLaughlin, Gold, Female Junior Bowhunter Recurve category; Gerard Quinn, Gold, Male Junior Bowhunter Recurve category; Siobhan Keeble, Gold, Adult Female BareBow category; and Neil Keeble, Silver, Adult Male, BareBow category.
Adria Quinn, Gold, Adult Female Freestyle Unlimited category; Paul McCooey, Gold, Adult Male Freestyle Recurve category; and Nichola McLaughlin, Gold, Adult Female Bowhunter Recurve category.
Darrel Wilson, Gold - with a perfect score of 600 - Adult Male Freestyle Unlimited category; Robert Hall, Silver, Adult Male, Freestyle Unlimited category; and Alan Convery, Bronze, Adult Male Freestyle Unlimited category.
Philip Fitzpatrick, fourth place, Adult Male Freestyle Unlimited category; Paul McClelland, Gold, Veteran Male Freestyle Unlimited category; and Gilbert McClelland, Bronze, Veteran Male Freestyle Unlimited category.
Hugh Murphy, 4th place, Veteran Male Freestyle Unlimited category; Kevin Donnelly, Gold, Adult Male Bowhunter Unlimited category. All returned tired but content with the day's result, a good return to archery for all.

At the other end of the country, Waterford City saw the Irish Indoor Open Championship take place at the SETU Arena, with two members of CúChulainn competing in the Indoor FITA 18.
After an extremely early and icy start, the two made their way to the Arena, having left home at what archers refer to as 'Stupid o'clock'. With over 100 archers competing at the competition, Male Compound was a hard-fought category.
Éamonn Rogers, Senior Male Compound, fought his way back to 4th place, beating his nearest competitor to that place in the last minutes of the competition.
Shay Barry finished in thirteenth place in what was a packed Senior Male Compound Category. All in all, a good weekend for the club.
