Wolfe Tones 1-12 Glyde Rangers 0-12

Wolfe Tones remain on course for promotion to Louth GAA John O'Neill Sand and Gravel Division Two League after overcoming Glyde Rangers in the play-offs on Saturday night.

There wasn’t a lot to choose between the two teams in this clash at Pairc Bhoilfe Toin, but ultimately it was the hosts who prevailed as Glyde were left to wait at least another season before they can make a return to Division Two football.

In the end, it was a second-half goal from Alan Wilton that proved to be the difference as the Drogheda men marched on.

Eoghan Brennan was in fine scoring form on the night for the Tones as he landed six points with Rhys McGovern, Sean Flanagan and Liam Gaffney weighing in with important contributions for a side that led by 0-9 to 0-6 at the break.

Ciarain Sheridan led the way for Glyde in terms of scoring as he finished with three points, while Olan Crosbie, Tadhg Kellett and Killian Scott were also on the mark. However, despite a battling second half, they fell just short.

Nh Fionnbarra 8-20 Lannleire 0-3

An assured and confident performance saw Naomh Fionnbarra safely through to the Division Three play-off final against a Lann Leire side that failed to get going on the day.

An interesting statistic from the encounter shows that, bar goalkeeper Fionn McQuillan, all Fionnbarr's players, including the substitutes, made their way onto the scoresheet.

Particularly impressive for the 'Barrs were Ronan Callaghan, Matthew O'Reilly and Ciaran Murphy.

At the interval, it was 3-7 to 0-3 in favour of the Barrs, and the winners took full advantage of the second half dismissals of Ian Mulroy and Darragh Goodman to press home their advantage.

A greater test will surely come in the Division Three playoff on Saturday against Wolfe Tones for the right to play in the Division Two promotion-relegation match.

Dunleer now have time to rebuild and concentrate on their first round championship match versus Naomh Fionnbarra next month.
