Glyde Rangers produced a stirring second-half comeback to claim the Powerscreen Kevin Mullen Shield with a 3-11 to 2-11 victory over Wolfe Tones in a gripping final at Point Road, Dundalk on Sunday afternoon.

The Tones came flying out of the blocks and were full value for their 2-7 to 1-3 half-time lead. Goals from Liam Gaffney and G. Cooney, along with points from D. Weldon, J. Comiskey, and D. Bolger, had them in control at the break.

They dictated much of the opening period, with sharp attacking play and a well-organized defence keeping Glyde at bay.

However, Glyde Rangers were not to be denied. Cormac Lundon struck twice early in the second half to level the game, and with captain Ciarán Sheridan leading by example, they slowly took over.

Their work rate increased, and they began winning key battles in midfield, allowing them to create more scoring opportunities.

Sheridan’s stunning two-pointer from a free in the dying minutes proved decisive as Glyde finished the stronger side to secure the silverware.

Tadhg Kellet also kept the scoreboard ticking over with crucial frees, ensuring his side remained in contention throughout the second half.

Wolfe Tones will rue missed chances and a loss of momentum in the second half, but they played their part in a superb contest.

Their defensive efforts, led by Alan Sweeney, Seán Flanagan, and Danny Byrne, kept them in the game for long stretches, but they were ultimately undone by Glyde's resilience and clinical finishing.

The Tallanstown team will celebrate a hard-fought triumph ahead of the start of their upcoming league campaign.
