On the evening of Wednesday, August 7th, 2024, Archery Ireland hosted a unique and welcoming competition at Sports Campus Ireland in Blanchardstown, Dublin.
This midweek event, starting at 7 pm, featured a Single WA720 Round for seasoned archers and a range of distances for beginners and less experienced participants.
The distances varied from the challenging 70 meters down to a more approachable 20 meters, catering to complete novices. The event was well-attended, drawing archers of varying skill levels.
For those who had recently completed beginner courses but felt apprehensive about tackling the full distances, the friendly and fun atmosphere helped to ease nerves and encourage participation.
The camaraderie and supportive environment were evident as archers tested their skills and pushed their boundaries. CúChulainn Archers were well-represented, with several members achieving notable results:
Paul McCooey competed in the Senior Recurve Men category, placing 5th in his first full-distance competition. Christabel Sing Chze Chai earned a Silver medal in the Compound Beginner Women’s category, successfully completing the full distance.
Michael Mullooly took home a Silver medal in the Senior Barebow Men’s category, also marking his first full-distance competition. Éamonn Laramie excelled in the Beginner Barebow Men’s category, winning Gold at a shorter distance.
Thomas Markey Jr participated in the Beginner Recurve Men category, securing 8th place in the shorter distance. The evening was not only a display of skill but also of community spirit, with participants enjoying the “craic” and camaraderie that are hallmarks of such events.
Thanks to Archery Ireland for organizing this innovative competition that provided both challenge and encouragement to archers at all levels. The success of the Wednesday event carried over into the weekend, as CúChulainn Archers continued to make their mark.
On Sunday, August 11th, two members traveled to Harbour House Archery Club in Athy, Co. Kildare, to compete in a WA 1440 competition.
Despite battling very windy conditions, both archers secured podium finishes: Éamonn Rogers claimed Gold in the Senior Compound Men category. Brendan Forde earned a Silver medal in the Senior Recurve Men category.
This string of achievements capped off a successful week for CúChulainn Archers, highlighting the progress and potential of both beginner and experienced members.
The club continues to nurture new talent, offering beginner classes throughout the year. For more information, interested individuals can contact via email at cuchulainnarchers@hotmail.com.
