Local residents have welcomed a move to tackle the drugs den at the old Rice’s shop on the Castletown Road.

Local residents have welcomed a move to tackle the drugs den at the old Rice’s shop on the Castletown Road.

Not alone have drug addicts been using the beaten up old building to shoot drugs in, but rodents have also been calling the drugs den home.

Speaking to the paper, local resident Paddy Carol said that he had sees rats in the area of the den.

“The place is infested with rats,” Mr Carroll said.

“The council came to take rubbish away from the front of the site as it was in public area, but they won’t remvoe rubbish from inside the gate as it is on private property.

“It’s great that someone is doing something about this.

“The council do not seem as if they are going to do anything.”

The Democrat contacted Dundalk Town Council for a comment in relation ot the matter.

Mr David Storey, senior executive officer, Dundalk Town Council, was asked about the ongoing issue at the house and the action taken by the group.

Mr Storey said he did not have any information on the group concerned.
