"Creativity and Commitment" - Louth pupils recognised at Council's Greener Poetry Competition

Louth County Council has announced the winners of the "Greener Poetry Competition 2025" which was open to primary school pupils in the county

Louth County Council have announced the winners of the "Greener Christmas Poetry Competition 2025". 

The competition was open to primary school pupils across the county and was part Louth County Council's Seasonal Christmas Waste Management campaign, which promotes sustainability during the festive season. 

Competition Winners: 

Dundalk MD:

1st Place: "A Second Life of Things" - Sam Woods, 4th Class, Monksland NS

2nd Place: "A Greener Christmas Future" - Luca Whelan, 6th Class, St Malachy's BNS

3rd Place: "A Greener Christmas" - 4th Class, St Peter's NS, Dromiskin

Drogheda BD:

1st Place: 4th Class, Scoil Naomh Feichín Termofeckin

2nd Place: "Our Christmas Wish" - Molly and Emily, 6th Class, Scoil Naomh Buithe Tenure

3rd Place: "A Christmas Wish" - Isabelle McHugh, 5th Class, St Patrick's NS, Haretown

Ardee MD: 

1st Place: "A Greener Christmas Wish" - Leah Drumgoole, 6th Class, Scoil Mhuire na Trócaire

2nd Place: "Greener Christmas" - 4th Class, Monastery NS Ardee

3rd Place: "Green Christmas" - Méabh Gilsenan, 4th Class, Collon NS

Prizes were awarded to schools by the Municipal Districts of Ardee and Dundalk and the Borough District of Drogheda. Each winning school received €200 and individual awards were also presented for respective winners.

Cllr Sean Kelly, Cathaoirleach of Louth County Council praised the creativity and commitment shown by the young poets in spreading this "vital message".

He said "Christmas is a time of joy and celebration, but it's also a time when waste can easily pile up.

Together, we can make this Christmas greener and more sustainable for everyone," he said.
