Blackrock Tidy Towns says it is proud to announce the launch of its new electric cargo trikes, a major step forward in enhancing local environmental efforts, improving operational efficiency, and supporting a cleaner, greener community, in Blackrock and Louth.

John Horan, Chair of Blackrock Tidy Towns, told the Dundalk Democrat that the initiative has been made possible through grant assistance from the Louth Local Community Development Committee (LCDC, Louth Leader), and with the valued support of Louth County Council, Connect Credit Union, and the Haggardstown and Blackrock Community Centre.

The addition of electric cargo trikes will significantly reduce the group’s carbon footprint while enabling litter collections, maintenance, and transport tasks throughout the village. The trikes provide an eco-friendly alternative to traditional vehicles and will support the ongoing work that helped Blackrock become one of the region’s most admired and environmentally conscious communities.

Speaking at the launch, John Horan thanked all funding bodies and supporters for their continued commitment to sustainability and local development.

He commented, “these electric cargo trikes represent our community’s determination to lead the way in greener, smarter solutions. We are deeply grateful to the Louth LCDC, Louth County Council, Connect Credit Union, and the Haggardstown and Blackrock Community Centre for believing in this project and helping make it a reality.”

The trikes are being deployed immediately and will play a central role in preparations for upcoming Tidy Towns adjudications, as well as the Entente Florale competition in 2026. The trikes will be operated by the Fane Community Employment scheme who carry out numerous tasks on behalf of the committee, throughout the village.
