Dunleer student wins regional Rotary Youth Leadership competition

The Rotary Club of Dundalk announced that Scoil Uí Mhuirí Dunleer student Hailey Tevlin has been selected as the winner for the North-East Region in this year's prestigious Rotary Youth Leadership Development Competition.

The announcement was made at the annual Dundalk Rotary luncheon in the Ballymacscanlon Hotel, and it comes after numerous weeks of interviews of students from secondary schools in the area.

Scoil Uí Mhuirí Dunleer student Hailey Tevlin was announced as the winner at the event attended by Stephen Fealy, Dundalk Credit Union; Sean O'Hanrahan, President of Rotary; Mark Toner, Dundalk Credit Union who was a sponsor; Martina Farrell Assistant Principal at Scoil Ui Mhuirí; and Thomas Gavin, Ballymascanlon House Hotel, who was a sponsor. The competition at Dundalk schools level was generously sponsored by Dundalk Credit Union and Ballymascanlon House Hotel.

The Rotary Ireland Youth Leadership Competition is one of Rotary's longest running youth projects and has been going on for over 25 years.

The competition lets young people enhance their personal development by improving their communication and teambuilding skills.

It gives students a platform to gain confidence in public speaking and debating as well as meeting students from around the island of Ireland.
