The third National Community Gardens and Allotments Week takes place in Ireland from 11th – 18th October 2025, and Muirhevnamor Allotments & Community Garden in Dundalk are holding an event this Saturday 11 October at 11.30 at the community garden to to highlight ways the local community can come together and grow food.
A bilingual tour of the allotments at Muirhevnamor Allotments & Community Garden, as Gaeilge and English, will take place at Saturday's event, followed by a seed share and chats.
The aim of National Community Gardens and Allotments Week is to raise awareness of allotments and community gardens, to highlight how important they are and to detail the huge benefits of community gardening for communities, individuals, biodiversity and the local environment. The theme of this year's national event is “Growing Together”.
Last year’s National Week involved over 30 events organised throughout the island of Ireland, encouraged discussions on community growing, and saw the inclusion of community gardens in law for the first time in the Planning and Development Act.
