Louth Independent Ireland representative, Ryan McKeown, has called for an official bus stop and pedestrian crossing to be installed between Dundalk Retail Park and DKIT Sport.
In a statement to the Dundalk Democrat, Mr McKeown said that "over the last number of weeks our office has been contacted by concerned people, a lot of them elderly and infirm, expressing an urgent need to install an official bus stop and pedestrian crossing close to the roundabout between Dundalk Retail Park and the nearby DKIT Sport building."
He continued: "One person explained how they live on the far side of Dundalk and depends on public transport to get from A to B, and regularly visits the Park Cafe on the Retail Park.
"Last week he disembarked from the bus, waited for the bus to drive off so he could get a clear view of both sides of the road. When he thought it was safe to cross, he proceeded to make his way onto the road with his stroller, while in the middle of the road a car suddenly appeared from the bypass side of the Retail Park and very nearly hit him, causing him to stumble.
"With this in mind and with the new Louth County GAA Grounds in the process of being built close by, I am sure there will be an extra volume of traffic in years to come, so I am calling on Louth County Council to carry out a traffic survey in this area without delay and install the appropriate measures needed to ensure the safety and well-being of pedestrians and road-users alike."
