Top chef Catherine Fulvio is encouraging Transition Year students in Louth to get brewing and baking to help out the country’s hospices.

The Ballyknocken Cookery School supremo is backing the annual Bewley’s Big Coffee Morning for Hospice, one of the country’s longest charity partnerships, taking place on September 25.

TY students can join the action by hosting their own fundraiser on a date that suits.

Every school that registers to host a coffee morning at hospicecoffeemorning.ie and returns their funds before November 14, will be entered into a draw to win two free places on Catherine’s TY online cookery course, plus a cash prize of €1,000, donated by Bewley’s.

Joined by TY students Alannah Skakie, 16, and 15-year-old Harry Dunne, at East Glendalough secondary school, Wicklow, Catherine said: “Hosts have been gathering friends, family, colleagues, and neighbours to help raise funds for an amazing cause for over 30 years.

“And this year we want to encourage the new generation of coffee morning hosts in Louth to get involved.

“So get creative - have a cupcake decorating competition, bake sale, raffle or community coffee morning.

“Invite your fellow students, parents and local community and see how your support will make such a huge difference to hospice patients and their families.

“It’s a terrific campaign that supports hospices and homecare services across the country and the perfect opportunity to host a fun get together with friends, family or colleagues, while raising much needed funds for your local hospice.”

Register your class at hospicecoffeemorning.ie where you’ll find lots of resources to get started, with recipes and fundraising tips. Once registered, you’ll also receive a host pack which includes free Bewley’s coffee, posters and collection boxes.
