Louth County Council offices in Dundalk
As part of its ongoing enforcement operations to combat illegal dumping, Louth County Council has said that in July, it secured a conviction for illegal dumping with a fine imposed on the defendant by the courts of €300 and €550 expenses.
In its monthly report on work carried out by the Louth County Council in relation to waste management and enforcement, the local authority said that in July, litter wardens completed 140 investigations in response to dumping reported by members of
the public. 14 Fixed Penalty Notices were issued in July where evidence was found under the Litter Pollution Act 1997.
It added that litter wardens continue to deal with all litter matters within the county daily, responding to complaints from members of the public, councillors and engaging with tidy towns groups and communities.
As part of this, two five-hour foot patrols were undertaken by the litter wardens on 2 July in the North Louth Coastal area. The areas covered were Gyles Quay, Templetown/ Shillen Hill, Whitestown, Ballagan, Greenore, Carlingford, Omeath and Greenway. The main emphasis was on awareness of dog fouling and cleaning up after your dog.

There were also six 1000L Intermediate bulk containers (IBC’s) of diesel laundering waste removed by Louth County Council to date in July 2025. The total cost for clean-up, removal and disposal of diesel laundering waste to date in 2025 is approximately €68,140.60.
