Louth GAA Club pioneers Ireland’s first BCP equipment upgrade

Upgraded BCP now provides high-speed broadband access throughout the clubhouse

Louth GAA Club pioneers Ireland’s first BCP equipment upgrade

Cllr John Reilly at Roche Emmets

Local representative Cllr John Reilly has revealed that Roche Emmets GAA Club in north Louth has become the first GAA club in Ireland to receive an upgrade to its Broadband Connection Point (BCP) equipment and broadband facilities. This significant advancement, he said, marks a major milestone for the Louth club and the local community.
Cllr Reilly said that the upgraded BCP now provides high-speed broadband access throughout the clubhouse with easy log-in via email, making it more straightforward for members and visitors to stay connected. Notably, he added, the new system also supports seamless financial transactions through debit card machines, essential for modern GAA clubrooms that require "tap and go" functionality, particularly in bar and social areas.
The previous BCP infrastructure, installed during the COVID-19 pandemic, was seen as a beneficial development at that time. Cllr Reilly said however, it has since been recognised as inadequate for the technological needs of a modern GAA facility. The new equipment enhances broadband speeds and supports Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) and other digital services essential for the safe and efficient operation of a busy club.
According to Cllr Reilly, early feedback from club officials and users has been overwhelmingly positive, with many praising the new system's reliability and speed.
Speaking about the upgrade, Cllr Reilly stated:  "I am delighted that the Department have chosen Roche Emmets to be the first club in the country to receive this vital equipment upgrade. It’s encouraging to see genuine investment making its way to the heart of our communities. I will urge the Department of Rural and Community Development to include Cooley Kickham's in the next round of nationwide upgrades."
This development, Cllr Reilly added, highlights the importance of continued investment in rural digital infrastructure—for connectivity, community life, and local sports.
