Staff at Irish Life in Dundalk are getting set to hold their annual charity event this Friday, which will see the Louth staff walk 500km in one day to help raise funds for this year's chosen charities, Breast Cancer Ireland and Pieta House.
Last year they held a charity walk where one of their staff walked from 8am – 4pm to raise funds for the Down Syndrome Centre North-East and The Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association (IMNDA), raising over €560,000 in the process, so this year they chose a slightly different target.
To complete their mission of walking 500km in one day, they will need 87 staff members to walk a 5.8km loop once throughout the day, with the first group starting at 8am and last group at 3pm. The total amount donated is matched by Irish Life. So, every donation will go twice as far and benefit both charities.
If you wish to support this year's charity, the gofundme page is here.
Staff Charities, the fundraising committee made up of Irish Life & Canada Life Group staff that raises money on behalf of all staff is behind the event. Two charities are elected each year by staff, and they will benefit from all the fundraising efforts for that year. Staff Charities was set up in 1996. Up to and including 2024, more than €5m has been raised and donated to various charities by Irish Life and Canada Life staff.
