Planning refused for almost one third of rural applications in Louth in 2024
Planning permission was refused last year for almost one third of the planning applications made in Rural Policy Zone 1 and 2 in Louth, according to information released to councillors at the Louth County Council March meeting.
Cllr Antóin Watters submitted a question to the local authority ahead of the March meeting, asking, "How many planning applications have been made to Louth County Council in Rural Zone 1 & 2, over the last 12 months. Can you please provide details of the decision made, and the number in each Municipal District."
In the response provided to Cllr Watters by Director of Strategic Economic Development, Thomas McEvoy, it showed that a total of 152 applications were made in Rural Policy Zones 1 and 2 in 2024. Of the 152 applications: 69 or 45.4% were granted planning permission; 47, or 30.9%, were refused planning permission; and 36, or 23.7% of applications, were on hold due to a request for further information on the proposed development.
