Despite being in the process of applying for funding from the HSE, the lengthy approval process means SOSAD urgently requires interim financial help to stay afloat.

Local mental health charity SOSAD Ireland has issued an urgent call for financial support as it faces a critical funding shortfall that could force the closure of its services.

The charity, which supports people struggling with mental health challenges and suicide prevention, revealed that it needs to raise €42,000 by the end of this week to cover essential monthly expenses and keep its doors open.

Despite being in the process of applying for funding from the HSE, the lengthy approval process means SOSAD urgently requires interim financial help to stay afloat. Even if interim funding is secured, it won’t be enough to cover immediate costs without additional community support.

SOSAD Dundalk, along with its other branches, provides mental health services including free counselling and a 24/7 helpline. Already this year, the charity has supported 907 clients, and last year delivered over 22,000 counselling sessions, helped more than 1,900 people across 28 counties, and handled over 1,100 helpline calls.

It costs approximately €55,000 a month to sustain SOSAD’s services. While fundraising events are planned over the next few months, the charity stresses that immediate donations are crucial to prevent a shutdown.

“We need your urgent help to continue to provide our much-needed services and to keep the lights on,” a spokesperson for the charity said.
