See the 18 Louth Tidy Town projects getting a share of over €100k

Money has been awarded for the refurbishment of fencing throughout Blackrock Park

Louth County Council has announced the successful applicants for the Tidy Towns Project Scheme 2025, a funding initiative aimed at supporting Tidy Towns groups in enhancing their scores in the National Tidy Towns Competition. The successful projects were approved by elected members at their recent meeting in March.

Launched in January 2025, the scheme has awarded funding to 18 projects across the county, including three projects within the Borough District of Drogheda. 

These initiatives will support the ongoing efforts of dedicated Tidy Towns volunteers, who play a vital role in enhancing the appearance and appeal of their towns and villages.

The successful projects were approved by elected members at the recent Dundalk Municipal District meeting.

A total of €63,797.19 has been awarded to nine projects across Dundalk and surrounding areas, supporting the invaluable efforts of local Tidy Towns volunteers.

Successful Projects in the Dundalk Municipal District:

  • Blackrock Tidy Towns Project 1 – Refurbishment of fencing throughout Blackrock Park – €8,100.00
  • Blackrock Tidy Towns Project 2 – Provision of exercise bars in the Teen Space area of Blackrock Park – €8,100.00
  • Carlingford Tidy Towns – Installation of planters in the promenade area – €9,000.00
  • Dromiskin Tidy Towns Project 1 – Sculpture of a girl reading on a bench to enhance the outdoor library area – €4,034.49
  • Dromiskin Tidy Towns Project 2 – Refurbishment of the Biblical Garden – €9,000.00
  • Dundalk Tidy Towns – Creation of a Walking, Heritage & Biodiversity Route booklet – €6,662.70
  • Grange Tidy Towns – Repair and replacement of damaged walls by Grange Streams – €900.00
  • Haggardstown Tidy Towns – Installation of additional stations along the new heritage trail – €9,000.00
  • Omeath Tidy Towns – Development of a sensory area in the green space at the play park – €9,000.00

A further total of €34,687.53 has been awarded to six projects across Ardee and surrounding areas.

Successful Projects in the Ardee Municipal District:

  • Ardee Tidy Towns Project 1 – Landscaping of the Northern Approach to Ardee – €8,100.00
  • Ardee Tidy Towns Project 2 – Refurbishment of the garden at Chantry Cottage – €2,970.00
  • Castlebellingham Tidy Towns – Installation of new seating at Seabank & St. Oliver’s Park – €5,631.93
  • Dunleer Tidy Towns – Works on the New Railway Garden – €6,946.20
  • Louth Village Tidy Towns – Pollinator planting & signage at St. Mary’s Abbey – €5,973.30
  • Tallanstown Tidy Towns – Replanting overgrown beds in the green triangle in the village & addition of two new beds – €5,066.10

Successful Projects in the Borough District of Drogheda and Monasterboice:

  • Drogheda Tidy Towns Project 1 – Upgrade of the Joe Stanley 1916 Garden – €3,200.00
  • Drogheda Tidy Towns Project 2 – Design & production of a booklet highlighting nature stories of the area, with accompanying signage – €4,846.20
  • Monasterboice Tidy Towns Project – Planting & installation of water harvesting stations – €2,643.20

Total Funding Awarded: €10,689.40

A Council spokesperson said: "The continued success of Tidy Towns groups in both local and national competitions reflects their dedication and hard work. Beyond competition, their projects foster community pride and enhance their towns and villages as attractive destinations for visitors and businesses alike.

"Louth County Council remains committed to supporting these efforts through funding for small-scale capital improvement projects. Successful applications have been aligned with National Tidy Towns categories, following recommendations from judges' reports to ensure maximum impact.
