Louth sees fall in number of recorded drug offences

There was a fall in the number of controlled drug offences recorded in the Louth Garda Division in the last quarter of 2024, according to figures released this week by the Central Statistics Office.

88 controlled drug offences were recorded in Louth in the final three months of 2024, down from 107 the previous quarter, and also down from 102 in the final quarter of 2023.

Within the category, the highest number of offences recorded were for possession of drugs for personal use, with 62 offences recorded. It is down from 80 in the third quarter of last year, and also down from 69 in the final quarter of 2023.

24 incidents of possession of drugs for sale or supply were also recorded in the Louth Garda Division in the last quarter of 2024. It is up two from the 22 recorded in the third quarter of last year, but down from the 29 recorded in the final quarter of 2023.

It should be noted that from 28 January 2024, policing services were transferred from the Laytown sub-district in the Meath Division to the Drogheda sub-district in the Louth Division.
