Work began on just 8 new homes in Louth in February
Data released today by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage has revealed that work began on just eight homes in Louth in February, the lowest number of commencements in the county since May 2020, during the height of the Covid pandemic.
It is a decrease of two on the ten commenced in Louth in January, and down from 213 in February 2024. Of the eight homes, two were one off houses and six were scheme units. Work has not commenced on any apartments in Louth so far this year. 2024 saw the highest number of commencements in Louth in over ten years, with work beginning on 3,196 homes, up from 1,118 in 2023.

Nationally, work began on 1,017 homes in February 2025. Of the 1,017 homes commenced in February, 21% are scheme dwellings, 61% are apartments and 18% are for one-off units.
On a rolling 12- month basis (March 2024 to February 2025) 64,175 homes commenced which is up 79% from the previous 12 months (where there were 35,776 homes commenced).
Of all the homes commenced this month, 47% were in the four Dublin local authorities, with 44% in Dublin City alone. By Local authority, the most homes commenced were in Dublin City (451) followed by Limerick (109) and Donegal (89).
