Johann Strauss’s Die Fledermaus comes to Dundalk's An Táin

Irish National Opera (INO) has announced a ten-venue national tour of Strauss’s comedy opera Die Fledermaus, with a performance set for An Táin Arts Centre, Dundalk on Thursday 20 February

Famous for his iconic waltz The Blue Danube, Die Fledermaus is undoubtedly Johann Strauss’s most popular opera, renowned for its tunefulness, upbeat musicality and Viennese lilt.

In a whirlwind of mistaken identities man-about-town Eisenstein, his wife Rosalinde, and their maid Adele all find themselves at Count Orlofsky’s masked ball. A night of flirtation, mischief and hilarity ensues.  

Director directed Davey Kelleher says: “It’s thrilling to bring Die Fledermaus to Irish audiences. We’re reimagining Strauss’s dazzling operetta in a bold, intimate setting, brimming with energy and playfulness. Richard Pierson’s dynamic new orchestration.

puts the music at the heart of the production, preserving all the effervescence of the original while unleashing the wit, mischief and wild abandon that make this work irresistibly timeless.” 

Irish National Opera’s new production showcases outstanding Irish vocal talent with sopranos Jade Phoenix and Sarah Shine as Rosalinde and Adele, and mezzo-soprano Sharon Carty as Prince Orlofsky. American tenor Alex McKissick sings Eisenstein and Northern Irish baritone Ben McAteer is Dr Falke. The ensemble cast also includes soprano Megan O'Neill and tenors Aaron O'Hare and William Pearson.  

Die Fledermaus is conducted by Richard Peirson, with set design by Paul O'Mahony, costume design by Catherine Fay, lighting design by Sinead McKenna and choreography by Stephanie Dufresne.  

Die Fledermaus is sung in English with English subtitles.
