The CLÁR programme provides funding for small scale projects in rural areas that have experienced population decline

€244k CLÁR funding for six projects on Louth's Cooley Peninsula

€244,462 has been allocated to six projects in north Louth under the 2024 CLÁR Programme, it was announced today by Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD, to support the development of sports and outdoor facilities.

It is part of a package of over €11.4 million to deliver 264 projects under the 2024 CLÁR Programme, which will see Community Centres and Local Halls also being upgraded and given a new lease life as part of the initiative.

The applicants in Louth receiving the funding and the projects it will be funding are as follows:

  • Cooley Kickhams - Painting of Ball Wall with lines and targets for various games. Includes painting of onsite café - €7,662
  • Cooley Kickhams Supply, delivery and erection of sports pitch fencing around our new pitch. €50,000
  • Cúchulainn Gaels Storage space €49,500
  • Foy Centre - Carlingford Community Development Company Permanent storage unit €50,000
  • Glenmore Athletics Club Addition of toilet facilities at club €49,500
  • St Olivers NS Carlingford Creation of a soft play area in the school yard €37,800.

The CLÁR (Ceantair Laga Árd-Riachtanais) programme is funded by the Department of Rural and Community Development and forms part of the Government’s ambitious five-year policy for rural Ireland, Our Rural Future. It is a targeted investment programme for rural areas that aims to provide funding for small infrastructural projects in designated rural areas.

Announcing the successful projects on Monday, Minister Humphreys said that, “the projects we are funding today are based on a bottom-up approach; Ideas and proposals that have come directly from communities on the ground.

“From playgrounds and sports facilities to sensory gardens and community halls - these projects will make a really positive difference in towns and villages throughout Rural Ireland.”
