Dundalk's St Vincent's students in Junk Kouture final

There was great excitement in St. Vincent's School in Dundalk last week as fifth year students Madeleine Cristal, Ellimay Sharkey and Rebecca O'Hagan packed up their wonderful creation 'Rockin Around' and made their way to the RDS in Dublin for the 2024 Junk Kouture City Final. 

The Christmas inspired costume was made last year as part of their Transition Year program. 

They were fortunate to qualify for the North Regional Final which took place in April in the Helix Theatre, where they progressed to the National Final. 

They were one of 60 costumes to make it to the final, from almost 1,200 entrants.

While Madeleine performed beautifully on the night, the competition was fierce and they narrowly missed selection for the World Final which will be held later this year. 

Their Art teacher Carmel Clyne said: 

“While the team are disappointed not to make it through to the World Final of this International Competition, I am so proud of their achievement. 

“They worked incredibly hard last year on their design and the standard in the RDS was very high. 

“We have had many students take part in Junk Kouture over the years and we are looking forward to next year's competition already.”
