Call for more playgrounds in Dundalk
A Dundalk woman has started a petition calling on Louth County Council to build more playgrounds and recreational spaces for children in the town.
Ellen Mao, a mother-of-two who lives in Dundalk, has already gotten more than 70 signatures on her petition, which she started on the Uplift petitions platform.
In her petition, Mao says building more playgrounds in Dundalk would make it a “more vibrant place to live” as they “foster community interaction and engagement among parents and families”.
She also said the lack of good quality playgrounds in Dundalk near residential areas means that children are often forced to play in “unsafe areas like streets and roads”.
Speaking about her campaign, Mao said: “Our community needs more playgrounds to provide children with safe and accessible spaces to play, promoting their physical and social development while reducing the risks of playing in unsafe areas like streets.”
Patrick Kelleher, a campaigner at Uplift, said: “We commend Ellen for taking action to make her local community in Dundalk a better place for children and adults alike.
“We all deserve to live in communities where our children can thrive, make friends, and be themselves — but the lack of good quality playgrounds in Dundalk means that many children are missing out on the childhood they deserve.
“The good news is that we know people power works. When we raise our voices together, we can force our elected leaders to listen to us. We are now urging Louth County Council to engage with parents like Ellen to help make Dundalk a better place for families to live.”
Uplift is a people-powered community of over 340,000 people in Ireland. Each day hundreds of people take small actions together, such as signing petitions or contacting their TDs, to help build a more equal, sustainable, and just Ireland.
